Pregnant Women To Fall Under A Special Group Of People Discouraged From Taking The Vaccine:

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has discouraged a certain group of people from taking the vaccine. Among the people who can not take the vaccine are pregnant women, old people and those with underlying conditions.

An official in the Ministry of Health, Dr Raiva Simbi said pregnant women were discouraged from taking the vaccine as they fall under the special group. He said:

Naturally pregnant women are a special group. They are usually excluded from all the vaccination programmes.

Dr. Simbi also encouraged the elderly and those with underlying conditions to take the vaccine, stating that they could take the vaccine as long as they stable.

Those with comorbidities, underlying chronic illnesses, can be vaccinated if they are stable, but if they are not we discourage them from getting vaccinated.

Then the elderly. These usually have some underlying conditions, but as long as they are stable they can take the vaccines.

Zimbabwe started its vaccination program on 15 March using 200 000 Chinese-developed Sinopharm jabs donated by China with the Minister of Health and Child Care Vice President Constantino Chiwenga being the first Zimbabwean to take the vaccine.

In an interview with The Herald, the Minister of Health and Child Care Vice President Constantino Chiwenga revealed that he was not having any complications after two weeks of taking the vaccine.

“I didn’t feel anything at all and I am okay. As you have seen I am working and I am fit 100 percent. There is nothing wrong with this vaccine, the vaccine is intended to save lives,” said VP Chiwenga.

He encouraged Zimbabweans to get vaccinated when the opportunity presents itself.

“In this case, this is a pandemic which if not controlled the virus mutates and we will be with it for a long time and we will lose many lives. The best way to stop the spread of this virus is to get vaccinated.”

Over 30 000 Zimbabweans have now been vaccinated against Covid-19.
