In what looked like a movie, a man was dragged for about 100metres by unknown men who forcibly took his potable radio and also demanded cash.
This sad incident occurred last week on Sunday at around 4.30 pm at Mcumbatha High School in Emganwini suburb in Bulawayo. It is reported that the victim whose name was identified as Mqhelisi Ncube (26) had gone to fetch water when he got attacked.
A source who witnessed the whole incident narrated to B-Metro how it all happened.
“They demanded cash but he told them that he had no cash. That did not go down well with the pair as one of them hit him with open hands while trying to forcibly take car keys from his hand. But he kept a tight grip on them and refused to let go,” said the source.
When the two robbers saw that Mqhelisi was overpowering them, one of them ran to the victim’s car and took his portable radio. The source reported that the men ran to their white BMW car which was parked near the school gate. The victim gathered courage and ran after them.
“He got into their car. One of the men pushed him (Mqhelisi) out while another one firmly held his hand. The other guy started the car and drove off while pulling him. They pulled him for almost 100 meters. They dumped him, causing him to fall on the ground and he suffered head injuries. During the process his cellphone, a Samsung Galaxy J5 which was in the pocket fell and was crushed by the car,” said the source.
The value of the damaged cell phone and portable radio is estimated to be US$160.
Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and appealed for information that might lead to the arrest of the two assailants who are on the run.
