21-Year-Old Mberengwa Woman Master Minds Robbery:
Just when you least expect it, Police have arrested a 21-year-old woman that they believe to be the mastermind and probably the leader of an eight-member-gang that robbed a number of families.
Investigations that have been made so far indicate that the gang has been engaged in two robberies that saw gold, foreign currency and property worth US$6 500 being stolen from two different families.
The accused who are now in police custody are Farai Moyo (of Clifton farm, Mberengwa), the female who is suspected to be the brains behind the robberies, Mduduzi Makamu (28) (Ascot Gweru), Sibangani Nyathi (42) (Mtapa Gweru), Lonias Mnkuli (29) (Binga), Dumiso Dube (33) (Gokwe) and Payson Moyo (33) (Mwenezi).
In an interview with Masvingo Mirror Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the cases committed by the gang.
Two other suspects only identified as Nyasha and Trust are still to be apprehended by the Police, said Mahoko.
Moyo is suspected to have had the information on the targets as she either once worked for them or lived within their vicinity.
On February 14, 2021, at 10 pm the suspects are reported to have forcibly opened the door to Cuthbert Ndawana’s house and hit him on the head with a machete. They tied his hands and legs with a rope and demanded cash. They robbed him of a cellphone and cash before they fled the scene.
The following night, the eight proceeded to Anna Vhunzinjera’s place who is Moyo’s former employer. They took 28g of gold, US$700-00 in cash and groceries.
Mahoko said that the value of the recovered property is only US$300.
